President Itoh attends the APRU Annual Presidents Meeting

Keio University President Kohei Itoh attended the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Annual Presidents Meeting (APM) which was held in Singapore from July 6 to July 9, 2022.

This, the 26th APM, hosted by Nanyang Technological University, was being held in a face-to-face format for the first time in three years, taking as its theme “Reconnecting in a Sustainable World.”

During the meeting, President Itoh delivered a speech entitled “Reconnecting in a Sustainable World and the Mission of Keio University” at the “Lunch with Address” which took place on July 7. On July 8, he also participated in the breakfast meeting as part of the Asia-Pacific Women in Leadership (APWiL) Program, and was a speaker at the “Concluding Session” which wrapped up the APM itinerary.

More than 100 participants, including presidents from each of the APRU member universities took part, joining discussions on the importance of member institutions working together for the swift resolution of the common challenges of sustainability, climate change action, and preparedness for the next pandemic, with a view to the post-COVID-19 era.

The APRU is an alliance of universities comprised of 55 higher education institutions from 18 countries within the Pacific Rim. It was established in 1997 with the aim of promoting the construction of cooperative systems in education, research, and corporate management in the Pacific Rim as well as contributing to economic, scientific, and cultural development across the region. Keio University has been a member of APRU since 2002.
