Intercollege Japanese language Table

December 21, 2021
Keio University

From September to December 2021, students from Keio University and six universities in the US — Brown University, Columbia University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Yale University — participated in the Intercollege Japanese Language Table, an online exchange program on Japanese culture and other topics.

Throughout the fall semester, each of the six US universities hosted a session, allowing the participants to engage in a different topic each time, mainly in Japanese with some supplementary English. This gave the Keio students a forum to introduce Japanese language and culture as well as to broaden their international perspectives through exchange.

One of the participants from Keio commented that “It was stimulating to learn about the characteristics of the Japanese language and Japanese culture from the outside through the reactions of the participants from the US, and to feel the difference in my own perception.”

This program is scheduled to be held again in the spring of 2022.

The past two years have been challenging for those who wish to study abroad and exchange with foreign students, however, the International Center is working to keep providing opportunities for students to engage in international exchange.
