🌐 🗣️ Opening of the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Centre for Arabic Language Education

Last month, an opening ceremony for the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Centre for Arabic Language Education (ALC) was held on Hiyoshi Campus. The Centre, established under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is a new hub for learning about Arabic language and culture.

H.E. Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, minister of state of the UAE joined for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and presentation of commemorative gifts alongside Keio officials, embassy representatives, and other related parties. Afterwards, the venue shifted to the Kyoseikan Collaboration Complex where various speeches and a showcase of student performances that interweaved both Japanese and Arabic cultures were held.

Other programs were held during the week, including an Arabic calligraphy workshop and an event offering Arabic cuisine. Going forward, the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Centre for Arabic Language Education will serve as a center for deepening mutual understanding and friendship between the Arab world and Japan, with Arabic language education as its main focus, while also functioning as a place for cultural exchange.

🏫President Kohei Itoh Elected to Second Term

At a Board of Trustees meeting late last month, Keio University officially elected and appointed President Kohei Itoh to office for his second term, along with the vice-presidents, including two appointees who are scheduled to take office at a later date.

President Itoh, who has worked at Keio for over 30 years, first assumed the presidency in May of 2021. Now appointed to a second term, he will continue to lead Keio toward a brighter future.

🐐🌱 Twin Goats Move into SFC’s Eta Village Student Dormitory

Meet Kai-kun and Mayu-chan, who will be helping with lawn maintenance around Eta Village.

The “Goat Project” started from a conversation about grass management and morphed into a student-led initiative to adopt two goats. Students handled everything from setting up crowdfunding to the actual construction of the houses for the goats.

Their welcome ceremony was held on May 29, and brought together students and faculty members to celebrate these adorable new campus members. Only at SFC will you find students solving a practical problem with such creativity!
