“Even as a child, I was captivated by the Tokyo Big6 Baseball games at Jingu Stadium.”

Ryuta Hirose, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Business and Commerce began his baseball journey in the first grade at Keio Yochisha Elementary. His dreams of going pro would eventually come true when he was drafted as the third pick by the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the 2023 Nippon Professional Baseball Draft.

“I didn’t want wrestling to be my whole life.

“I didn’t want wrestling to be my whole life. I wanted to broaden my perspective through education and become someone who can contribute to society.”

Nonoka Ozaki, a recent graduate of the Keio University Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, took up wrestling at the age of 7, and eventually went on to win the Bronze in Women’s 68 kg Freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Today Keio University celebrates the 167th anniversary of its founding. Keio Foundation Day has been a designated university holiday since 1909, just over fifty years after its establishment in 1858, and provides an opportunity to reflect on Keio’s origins and those who pioneered its founding.

“Many creatives have little interest in the business aspects of their work. This often leads to their work never seeing the light of day and their talent being lost to obscurity.”

Takuya Miyata, a recent graduate of the Keio University Faculty of Business and Commerce, began producing independent films shortly after entering university. In his second year, he founded the creative collective TSUNAGU alongside peers from different universities. They won first prize with their video Guess What at last year’s Minato Shopping Arcade Video Contest.
