📣 2025 Keio SDGs Student Conference Kicks Off!

On May 15, Keio University President Kohei Itoh, several faculty members, and 80 students gathered for the first session of the Keio SDGs Student Conference for this academic year. The Conference, now in its fourth iteration, is an assembly of students formed each year to engage in meaningful discussions about what Keio can do to progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, or “SDGs”.

This semester, participating students will learn about the current state of the SDGs through a series of lectures given by experts in various fields as well as group discussions. Next semester, they will form subworking groups and compile a list of recommendations under the themes of “environment,” “society,” “economy,” and “overall approach” to submit to the president of Keio University.

For six months after graduating from Keio University, now composer and music producer Naoyuki Chikatani was a self-described “NEET”—no full-time job, stuck working on-and-off at a convenience store, and frustrated watching his classmates land corporate positions. Today, Chikatani composes scores for hit TV dramas like Ya Boy Kongming! and Tokyo Tower, has won multiple prestigious advertising awards, and has even broken into acting.

🥍Keio Clinches Victory in Annual Waseda-Keio Women’s Lacrosse Match 🏆

The “Sokei-sen” rivalry continued to live up to its reputation with the 33rd Waseda-Keio Lacrosse Matches that took place on May 18. The Hiyoshi Campus Athletics Field was filled with excitement as spectators and cheer groups witnessed the action.
After a thrilling contest in which both teams went point-for-point until the very end, Keio’s women’s lacrosse team emerged victorious with an 8-6 win!
Following the match, both the athletes and the audience came together to share the joy of victory by singing the chorus of “Wakaki-chi”, the fight song of Keio University.

🌎📃 Keio and Other U7+ Leaders Issue Communiqué Ahead of G7

On April 11–12, more than 80 university leaders from 16 countries met at the University of Ottawa in Canada for the U7+ Alliance Presidential Summit. President Kohei Itoh attended the Presidential Steering Committee Meeting online while Vice-President Motohiro Tsuchiya acted as the presidential delegate on the ground in Ottawa.

The U7+ is an international consortium of universities that discusses and makes proposals on the actions universities should take to address global challenges. This year, the U7+ Alliance issued a Communiqué entitled “The Role of Universities in Advancing AI,” which contains recommendations about how institutions of higher learning should contribute to the responsible advancement of artificial intelligence technologies.

The presidents of 40 universities, including President Itoh, endorsed the Communiqué, which was then delivered to representatives from the Canadian government who will be chairing this year's G7 summit.
