Keio’s newest FutureLearn course has begun and i

Keio’s newest FutureLearn course has begun and is available now. Titled “Akichi in Collections Management: Perspectives from a Japanese University Museum,” this 2-week course will build expertise in collections management and explore the role of community and sharing in university museums.

In 2021, Keio University pioneered a new approach to collections management at its university museum, KeMCo. The museum opened up a creative space dubbed “akichi” (Japanese for “an open space”) for community collections and welcomed the public for a variety of activities.

The aim of this course is to open up a space for discussing contemporary issues, ideas, and best practices, just like Keio’s own akichi. Participants will join a vibrant, international online community where they can share their own experiences and views on collections management, and there will be virtual tours of university museums around the world.

Congratulations to Prof. Napoleone Ferrara, M.D.,

Congratulations to Prof. Napoleone Ferrara, M.D., of the University of California San Diego and Prof. Kazutoshi Mori, Ph.D. of Kyoto University for being selected for the 28th Keio Medical Science Prize.

Prof. Ferrara, M.D., Distinguished Professor of Pathology/Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology and Pharmacology, was selected on the basis of "Molecular Basis of Angiogenesis and its Application."

Prof. Mori of the Department of Biophysics, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University was selected for "Molecular Mechanism of the Unfolded Protein Response."

The sessions featured Mr. Piotr Kroujkov, a business design manager at a consulting firm, and Dr. Md Shamim Sarker, JSPS postdoctoral fellow at the University of Tokyo talking about how they are building their careers after graduation as international students. They both shared their real-life experiences on the merits of studying in Japan, the challenges they have faced, and their career trajectories.
