Keio Yokohama Elementary School──Insect Specimens and Encyclopedias──

Publish: April 01, 2025

A large number of "insect specimens" are on display in the Keio Yokohama Elementary School library, known as "Chiyu no Hiroba." These include rare insects from all over the world, capturing the interest of the elementary school students.

Many of the specimens are placed near the shelves for Class 4 (Natural Sciences), allowing students to interact with the actual items at any time. In addition, books related to the insects are displayed alongside the specimens. This is to ensure that the library can respond to students' desires to "research more about this insect." Furthermore, names and classifications are listed on the specimens so that students can quickly find information about them.

In this way, the elementary school library is designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity by encouraging students to go back and forth between live materials and books.
