The movie I recommend is none other than "ALWAYS: Sunset on Third Street."
If you're someone who doesn't quite get it when people say, "Life isn't all about money," then you should definitely watch this movie.
The film is set on Mita-dori Street in the 33rd year of the Showa era (1958).
Although the Japanese people of that time were poor, they believed that tomorrow would surely be better than today, and everyone worked hard toward their own dreams. While the movie is fundamentally a slapstick comedy, the heartwarming scenes woven throughout make you reconsider what it means to live and leave you feeling cleansed. The scene near the end of the movie where Koyuki holds her ring finger up to the sky is incredibly moving.
Do you have a dream? And are you working hard to achieve it? In this day and age, when we can live comfortably enough just by doing what everyone else does, I especially recommend watching this film.
