Congratulations to two master’s students Shunsuke Eda and Fushi Sano (both Graduate School of Media and Governance second year) for winning the “Ichigo Award” at the 3rd Sapporo Station Street Award.
The award aims to highlight Sapporo’s cultural appeal and creativity, promoting it through activities centered on the main street in front of Sapporo Station, with a focus on integrating urban development and art. For this year’s theme, “LINK” (connection), creators submitted their work to be featured on the digital signage at the area’s new office building, which will serve as an urban hub connecting people with one another and with the city.
The award-winning “Harmony of Scapes,” which captures how Sapporo’s cityscapes and nature harmonize, has earned critical acclaim for its visual beauty enhanced by expert technical skill. The work is scheduled to go on display late this month.
During production, Eda visited Sapporo in person, progressing with the project while experiencing firsthand the connections between the city’s diverse landscapes. He also drew inspiration from the Ainu people’s view of nature—the belief that spirits dwell in forests, water, and soil—and aimed to create an expression where the presence of nature blends into the city, evoking a sense of continuity stretching from the past into the future.
Meanwhile, Sano focused on creating a feel that draws the mind of passersby into a different landscape. He captured moments where the bustle of the city blends into the rustling of the forest, and where the presence of nature overlaps with everyday life in the underground passageways.
