This project was launched in 2022 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of "Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning)" by Fukuzawa Yukichi. The fourth installment of this video content series, which features dialogues between Keio University President Kohei Ito and leading figures from various fields, is a special lecture titled "Fukuzawa Yukichi no Susume," featuring Mr. Shinichi Kitaoka, who is active on the international stage as a Special Advisor to JICA.

Mr. Kitaoka, who names Fukuzawa Yukichi as "the person he respects most," and President Ito delve into Fukuzawa's thought structure. Are the Meiji era and the modern era similar? What path should modern Japan, with its advancing institutionalization, take? We ask Mr. Kitaoka what he wants to convey to young people today through the spirit of independence and self-respect.

Starting Monday, March 25, it will be available on the special website ( Gakumon no Susume Special Page: [Keio University] ) and

the Keio University YouTube channel ( Keio University - YouTube ).

Be sure to watch it!
