Professor Dong-Sup Yoon, President of Yonsei University, was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by Keio University in a ceremony held at the Mita Public Speaking Hall (Enzetsu-kan) from 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

As a distinguished surgeon, Professor Yoon has been at the forefront of medical innovation, spearheading the introduction of pioneering procedures in his home country of South Korea. Furthermore, in his current role as President of Yonsei University, he stands at the vanguard of the global education, research, and medical sectors. In celebration of these achievements, Keio University offered Professor Yoon an honorary doctorate.

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Motohiro Tsuchiya, Vice-President for Global Engagement, who invited Professor Yuko Kitagawa, Executive Vice-President for Medical Care, to read out the Letter of Nomination, after which President Kohei Itoh presented Professor Yoon with an honorary degree certificate. In closing, Professor Yoon addressed President Itoh, thanking him for his remarks.

Since signing an academic exchange agreement in 1970, Yonsei and Keio have enjoyed more than 50 years as partners in teaching and learning. They were joined in 2002 by Waseda University and Korea University as part of the Japan-Korea Millennium Forum, an initiative that brings together the leaders of the four universities to promote further innovation in education and research. Keio hopes that this ceremony will mark the beginning of a new era of deeper partnership with its friends and colleagues at Yonsei University.
